General Questions
Q: I love the Eds and I want to be a part of it does
Edtropolis accept any input from fans?
A: Certainly! Edtropolis has a sizeable section
dedicated to fans' work in the form of artwork, stories, and poetry. Although we no longer accept new fanfiction or poetry, artwork is very welcome.
Alternatively if you'd just like to discuss something
Eds-related then why not join Earth to
Edd, Edtropolis' official message board?
Q: What kind of fan work do you accept?
A: As previously stated, although we have a sizeable 'read only' archive of fans poetry & fiction, we now only
accept fan-art. Please note that we do also specific guidelines for what we'll accept but in a nutshell the main criteria is that the artwork be
focused on Ed, Edd n Eddy or related characters. While it's okay to include an OC (original character) of your own or someone from a different fandom in your picture
the EDs must still be there and not be overshadowed by non-Eds characters. All artwork must be suitable for children (i.e. family friendly.) Beyond that the sky's the limit so use your imagination and show
us what you can do!
Q:
I have made some cool wav.files / Flash animations / animated stuff, may I send
them to you?
A:
We're sorry but at present we not able to accept movies/sound
files/animations etc we just don't have the space on site to host them. Small animated gifs and sprites (the kind suitable for message
boards / forums etc are very acceptable though, and you are welcome to link to your original animations or videos from the E2E Forum providing their content falls within our
PG-13 parameter.
Q:
I sent you a pic but it hasn't appeared on the site. Why?
A: It may be one of several things - the
first being that Edtropolis' art section simply hasn't been updated. While we try to update the site regularly,
other real life obligations and activities do get in the way and often take
precedence. Please be patient; assuming
your work fits within Edtropolis' guidelines for acceptable material then it
will likely be up shortly.
It may also be possible that your work was just not suitable for Edtropolis. If this is the case please don't be
offended, many wonderful works of art throughout history would rate more than a PG-13 grading, but we feel it's important to keep Edtropolis within
these boundaries. Another reason for its rejection could be that it was simply not 'Ed enough' meaning had little or nothing to do with the original cast of the show. An OC (original
character) or characters from different fandoms often fall into this category, when the character depicted, although familiar to the artist,
may mean little or nothing to those outside of the artist's usual online haunts.
A: It's hard to say without actually being
specific about a piece of work, but if something "feels" wrong then
it will be rejected and that's the bottom line. Edtropolis will not post
anything containing themes we consider to be violent / racist / sexist /
profane / inflammatory, or that falls outside of the guidelines specified.
Q:
What kind of artwork do you accept?
A:
Ed, Edd n Eddy artwork, of course!
Whatever strikes your fancy go right ahead and submit as long as you
remember this site is family-friendly and will not accept anything of an
R-rated nature or above, including images depicting graphic violence, cruelty,
or sexual situations.
Basically, as it's EEnE-related - meaning if it features Ed, Edd n Eddy or some of the other cul-de-sac characters) and is family-friendly, then we're happy to have it! You may of course include your own characters in your picture just so long as the Eds are also there. Got the idea? Then send it in to us, preferably as jpg, png or gif. Please remember that large pictures will be resized before posting on the site.
Q:
I have a scanner and I want to send you my artwork - what should I do?
A: Easy!
Once you've drawn your picture in whatever medium takes your fancy
(paints, pencils, macaroni art, hand-me-down kitchenware, etc), scan it in and
save it as either a jpeg or gif or png, then email it to us as an attachment and we'll take it from there.
Don't forget to put your name on it too so we know who to credit. Similarly, to avoid yells of 'copycat' or 'plagiarist' if your work has
been inspired by another fanartist then don't forget to mention that so that we can credit them too! (For example 'inspired by Jonny's picture of Plank.)
Q: I don't have a scanner and I want to send you my artwork -
what can I do?
A: Of course you can always create artwork
on your computer using any number of programs Paint.Net, Paint Shop Pro or PhotoShop,
nifty online apps like Artpad,
or even basic programs like Microsoft Paint.
You can also use a graphics tablet, a piece of equipment that hooks into
your computer and lets you "draw" as if you were using a regular piece
of paper and pen while it automatically displays/records your artwork on your
computer.
If you don't have a scanner but want to
send in art you've not done on a computer, this is trickier but not impossible.
Do you know anyone who will let you use their scanner? Schools or local
libraries often have them. Otherwise, you might be able to get a decent
picture by photographing your artwork with a digital camera or webcam this
doesn't always work very well, though, so be sure to check how it turns out before
sending it to us.
Finally, whether
you're sending scanned-in work or work you've done on your computer, if you're
going to send us more than 2-3 pics, you might want to zip them for ease of
transit - and don't forget to put you name on it!.
Q: Why
does it have to be jpg, gif or png format?
A: These file types simply work well
online; the file size is manageable and the pictures look good. Bitmaps (bmps)
tend to be too large; please don't email them to us as they clog up the
mailbox, and are usually either too big or too poor of quality to display on
Edtropolis, if this is the case we may convert them to other formats ourselves but only if we have time and in
doing this some details are often lost from the original. Please note that if you're doing your picture in Paint, it will
often automatically be saved as a bmp so when you're done drawing be sure you
select 'Save As' and scroll down below 'bmp' to select jpg/jpeg.
Q: I
use a MAC/Linux-based system, does this make any difference?
A: Nope, as long as you send your work as
a jpg or gif, it doesn't matter what OS you use.
Q:
You posted my picture up but it doesn't look very good. Why not?
A:
This could be due to any number of reasons. Images are usually resized for Edtropolis and oftentimes small
details including speech bubbles are lost (especially if you send bitmaps.
Beyond this, the image might have come through corrupted or of poor
quality already remember to double-check your graphics before you send them.
Fanfiction
/ Fan poetry Questions
Q:
Why do you no longer accept EEE Fanfiction or poetry on EDtropolis?
A: Please believe that this was not a decision we came too lightly. It's always been wonderful to see
all the stories & poems sent in by fans of the show and we firmly believe - and always will - in keeping the spark of creativity very brightly lit, however as we both have busy
lives there just isn't the time there used to be to monitor & collate new fanfiction in order for it to appear as we would like it to appear, on EDtropolis.
However, despite the fact that we can not post your EEE fanfiction / poetry onto the main site, we do have a thriving creative fanfiction community based over on our
Earth to Edd Forum (aka E2E) so if you're not already a member, it might be worth your while having a looksee & checking out the posting rules & parameters to see if that's for you.
Just as before, when posting your fanfics please bear in mind that E2E is an Ed, Edd n Eddy focused community which means EEnE characters should be the main focus of your story. We do have a fanfic sub-forum
where cross-overs are permitted, but again the story must include at least 50% Eds action. Stories in which the EEnE characters are reduced to minor roles in support of original characters or characters
from other fandoms are not suitable for E2E, so if you prefer working in the crossover genre or making heavy use of original
characters you should perhaps consider joining fanfiction.net and posting there.
Q: Since you can't accept new fanfics, where can I send my stuff so that people can read it??
A: There are several options open for you. As mentioned in the previous question, why not take a look at the Earth to Edd Forum (aka E2E) which
already houses a sizeable collection of EEE fanfics. If you feel that's not for you then there is always Fanfiction.net, which hosts a vast Eds collection
and also gives you the opportunity to review others work and have them review yours (although to be honest this is something of a 2 edged sword as some people are blunter in their reviewing than others would like them to be!)
If that doesn't grab you then why not take a look at other Ed, Edd n Eddy sites, some of which appear on our links page to see if they are accepting
work and failing that you could always make your own webpage using one of the many free services available or even showcasing it in a blog. Wherever you choose to show your work to
the world, good luck and keep that creative flame alive! ^_^.
